Revolving Spaces: Airbnb for Pop-Up Retail
# Revolving Spaces: Revolutionizing retail with On-Demand Opportunities and local Hero Hubs
Revolving Spaces, a new venture from LDC, is set to transform underutilized commercial real estate into dynamic revenue streams. This innovative platform not only outperforms outdated systems but also capitalizes on often-overlooked assets like rooftops, foyers, and car parks, converting them into “on-demand revenue opportunities.”
The company’s recent mid-July launch to the wider market follows a highly successful, oversubscribed funding round that exceeded its initial $670,000 target. LDC has bolstered its leadership team with two notable senior appointments: Barnaby Oswald, the founder of local Data Company (which was sold to Green Street in late 2023), has joined as board chairman. Additionally, Sean Salloux, a seasoned entrepreneur with multiple successful exits, has been appointed as strategic tech advisor.
Revolving Spaces is currently being rolled out across major landlord portfolios, including Ingka Centres (the real estate division of IKEA),Hammerson, and Value Retail, with numerous launches planned throughout the summer.
## A Local Hero for Emerging Brands
In a parallel initiative, LDC recently launched “Local Hero” in Brighton, a vibrant concept situated within the Churchill Square shopping mall. This initiative is specifically designed to empower emerging direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands by providing them with a seamless entry into physical retail without the typical associated complexities.
The local Hero concept has just arrived in the Churchill Square shopping mall, Brighton, England.
In collaboration with Ingka centres, the Local Hero concept aims to “break the cycle of inaccessible High Street spaces and give emerging brands visibility.” The space is fully equipped for short-term activations, product launches, and experiential events, strategically placed in a high-footfall location.Crucially, the Local Hero space comes complete with essential retail infrastructure, including Point of Sale (POS) systems, tills, and digital screens for dynamic messaging and product storytelling. This complete setup allows brands to move in and commence sales promptly. The pop-up spaces feature flexible fit-outs with adaptable shelving, displays, plinths, and rails, enabling brands to create bespoke and engaging retail environments.
Local Hero is currently accepting brand applications, and over the next twelve months, the space will host a curated rotation of emerging and established fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and lasting labels. mark Buchanan-smith, Churchill square’s meeting place manager, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We look forward to seeing this space evolve as a hub for creativity, discovery, and engagement.”
LDC anticipates that the next generation of leading brands will emerge from pop-up spaces like Local hero. These initiatives, supported by digital platforms such as Revolving Spaces, offer brands the dual benefit of increased visibility and reduced overheads, while simultaneously enabling the rapid identification of promising young labels for the future.
