Hyundai Motor and Kia Strengthen Partnership with Rhode Island School of Design
Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. announced on Friday that they are strengthening their partnership with the renowned US art school, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
During NYC Climate Week, held in New York, Hyundai Motor and Kia presented their partnership program with RISD and shared their vision for sustainable design.
NYC Climate Week is an annual event where corporate executives, policymakers, and civil society representatives gather to discuss future strategies for addressing climate change.
Lee Sang-yeop, global design manager of Hyundai Genesis, participated in a panel discussion where he explained the collaborative research projects and program updates conducted with RISD.
Since 2020, Hyundai Motor and Kia have been conducting a program with RISD to regularly study future nature design concepts.
Last year, the companies developed industry-academic research ideas such as architectural structures that combine reed ventilation systems with the Korean Ondol system, brick materials that mimic frog skin to improve moisture absorption, and a water filtration system modeled after spider webs under the theme of Coexistence. Living in the Future.
For this fall semester, they will launch the Regenerative Studio, which includes biomimicry seminars and sentient research.
