Vaccine Panel’s Role Under Scrutiny After Kennedy Appointments
WASHINGTON — A panel of vaccine advisers, handpicked by health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is set to review two already-approved vaccines at its first meeting next week. The agenda for the meeting was released Wednesday.
kennedy recently overhauled the panel, appointing eight new members. Some of these members have publicly questioned the safety and efficacy of approved vaccines.The advisory committee’s role is to provide guidance on immunization practices.
Next week’s meeting will include votes on recommendations for flu vaccines containing thimerosal. the panel will also reconsider the use of the combined measles,mumps,rubella,and varicella (MMRV) vaccine for children younger than 5.
