Makary was appointed Commissioner of Food and Drugs, signals the Secretary’s emphasis on the FDA’s public health mission, especially addressing the chronic health crisis.
Kennedy charged FDA staff with tackling the nation’s pediatric chronic health issues, emphasizing the need for an ”inspired and engaged workforce.” Makary thanked kennedy for his confidence in his leadership, pledging to build upon the agency’s history by applying rigorous scientific research to find cures and combat chronic illnesses.
