Ricciardo on the Brink: Will He Keep His RB Seat Amidst Lawson Rumors
Daniel Ricciardo’s Future in F1 Uncertain Amidst Rumors of Replacement
Daniel Ricciardo, the Australian F1 driver, has expressed uncertainty about his future in the sport amidst rumors of being replaced by Liam Lawson at Red Bull Racing.
Ricciardo, whose contract expires at the end of the 2024 season, has been linked to a potential mid-season replacement by Lawson, the team’s reserve driver. The rumors have been circulating in the paddock, with some speculating that the change could happen as early as the United States Grand Prix.
Ricciardo’s Performance and Contract Status
Ricciardo has struggled to perform consistently this season, currently sitting in 14th place in the drivers’ standings, 10 points ahead of his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. His contract status has been a topic of discussion, with Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, reportedly supporting Lawson’s early promotion.
Lawson, who is currently the team’s reserve driver, has a contract that allows him to terminate and move to another team if Red Bull fails to provide him with a 2025 seat by September.
Ricciardo’s Thoughts on His Future
Ricciardo has admitted that he is unsure about his future in F1, stating that he understands the nature of the sport and the constant speculation surrounding driver lineups. He has also expressed his desire to continue racing at a high level, but has hinted that he may not be willing to take on a role with a lower-tier team.
“I’ve been in this industry too long,” Ricciardo said. “I know how this sport works, and I don’t want to say that I’m 100% sure and I can bet all my money on it.”
Ricciardo has also stated that he is focused on the present and is looking forward to the upcoming weekend’s racing. “Just focus on what you have to do,” he said. “We’re on a merry-go-round, and things can change very quickly.”
Red Bull’s Plans for the Future
Red Bull management and shareholders are expected to discuss the drivers’ plans for the remainder of this season and 2025 during the break between the Singapore and US GPs. The team has already announced that Hiroki Tsunoda will race for them again next year, leaving Ricciardo’s future uncertain.
