Ricciardo Revival: Aussie Ace Set to Replace Lawson at F1 Singapore GP
Daniel Ricciardo’s F1 Future in Jeopardy as Liam Lawson Looms
Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 career may be nearing its end, with rumors swirling that Red Bull is set to announce its plans for the RB team, potentially replacing him with Liam Lawson in Singapore.
According to Dutch journalist Rick Winkelmann, sources close to the team have confirmed that Lawson will drive in Singapore, citing a contractual obligation for the young driver to compete in at least five Grands Prix this year.
Red Bull F1 advisor Helmut Marko hinted at the team’s plans, stating, “I have an idea, but it will have to wait until Singapore… It’s only September, but by Singapore we’ll have a clear idea. It will be pretty clear what’s going to happen in second place.”
Marko’s comments are believed to be related to the terms of Lawson’s F1 contract with Red Bull, which may guarantee the young driver a certain number of starts this season.
Former Red Bull driver Robert Doornbos expressed little surprise at the possibility of Lawson being guaranteed at least five grand prix starts in 2024, citing his own experience with a similar contract.
“That’s very possible,” Doornbos said. “Because I had the exact same contract at Red Bull, where I was obliged to show up at some races as a substitute.”
Dutch commentator Olaf Mol was less sentimental about Ricciardo’s potential departure from F1, stating, “He’s done. It’s done for Valtteri Bottas and it’s done for Guanyu Chou. That’s it.”
