Ricciardo Revs Up in Singapore: ‘High Downforce is Our Sweet Spot
Daniel Ricciardo Sets Sixth Fastest Time in F1 Singapore GP Free Practice
RB showed an outstanding performance in Friday practice for the Singapore Grand Prix, with Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda remaining solidly in the top 10 in both sessions.
“It was a really good day for both of us,” said Ricciardo, who admitted that with the renewed talk of his future, getting back behind the wheel seemed “the perfect fit.”
“I’m pretty happy with the car. It always needs some fine-tuning, but it’s nice to be up there. At least for now, it seems like we have a decent package here, so I’m happy with that.”
Asked about the source of his pace, the 35-year-old first laughed, then replied thoughtfully: “The last time we had a lot of downforce… well, it was probably Zandvoort. I was thinking more about Budapest. Maybe this package was suitable for Budapest and we were competitive there.”
“Maybe this type of circuit with the bigger wing suits our car better at the moment. We thought we could get a good result in Baku last week, but that’s not really the case. It wasn’t the case, because the downforce was quite high. Maybe the high downforce set-up suits us better.”
Daniel Ricciardo’s Positive Day in Singapore
“It was a really positive day for the whole team. Yuki and I managed to finish in the top seven in both sessions. We were very close within two tenths of a second. I’m happy, it’s always a question of set-up, but it was nice to be in the points today. We have a decent package and we look competitive today. It was really fun to ride around the circuit and I hope to keep this pace tomorrow.”
