Ricciardo’s Singapore Nightmare: Aussie Star Left Frustrated After Q1 Exit
Daniel Ricciardo’s Disappointing Qualifying Session at the Singapore Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo’s performance in the qualifying session for the Singapore Grand Prix was a far cry from his expectations. The RB driver finished the session in 16th place, casting doubt on his future in the sport.
Despite a promising start on Friday, with Ricciardo and teammate Yuki Tsunoda finishing in the top 10 in two practice sessions, the Australian driver’s fortunes took a turn for the worse on Saturday. Ricciardo finished FP3 in 17th place and missed out on a place in Q2, starting 16th on the grid.
When asked about the change in pace from Friday, Ricciardo was candid in his assessment. “Yeah, today wasn’t good. Yeah… I don’t really know. There’s not much to say.” He also denied that the change in results was due to a lack of confidence in the car.
“No, yesterday I was very confident. Yesterday went well,” Ricciardo said. “So I didn’t make too many changes. This morning I was fine with the medium tyre, but when I switched to the soft tyre it went completely wrong. But I thought I could solve the problem in qualifying, and it didn’t happen. Yeah, it wasn’t fun.”
Ricciardo’s disappointing performance has only added fuel to the rumors surrounding his future at Red Bull. Speculation has been rife that Ricciardo’s seat could be taken by reserve driver Liam Lawson, who was spotted in the garage over the Singapore weekend.
When asked how he was feeling ahead of Sunday’s race, Ricciardo joked, “Well, if I use foul language, I get an extra day of community service. This is a big problem. So let’s stop talking about it.”
