Kazuyoshi Tatenami, the head coach of the Chunichi Dragons, has announced his resignation after the team’s recent loss and subsequent fall to the bottom of the league. This decision comes as a result of the team’s poor performance, which Tatenami takes full responsibility for.
The Chunichi Dragons faced off against Hanshin on the 18th, with Hirito Takahashi, considered the strongest pitcher in the Central League this season, as the starter. Despite this, the team was unable to escape defeat and fell to the bottom of the league once again. Following the game, Tatenami stated that he would step down and take responsibility for the team’s record.
“Although I have thought about whether this is the right time, this is the third year of leading the troops, and I have to produce results, but there are no results,” Tatenami said. “I take this responsibility, and the Golden Year, the football season will last until the end, but of course, I will resign, and I have already discussed it with the team.”
Tatenami took charge of the Chunichi Dragons in 2022 but was unable to lead the team to success, resulting in two consecutive years at the bottom of the league. This year, the team started strong but quickly fell to the bottom, leading to Tatenami’s decision to resign.
The 55-year-old Tatenami, a former star player for the Chunichi Dragons, has been under pressure due to the team’s poor performance, which has been dubbed the “White Rice Rebellion.” His resignation marks the end of his three-year leadership career with the team.
