IndyCar Veteran Richard Buck Takes Helm of Indy NXT Series
Indianapolis, IN – After a three-month search, Penske Entertainment has tapped a familiar face to lead its Indy NXT advancement series. Richard Buck, a former CART IndyCar Series crew chief with a wealth of motorsports experience, will take over as director, starting January 6.
Buck, who guided Penske Racing cars for legendary drivers like Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Danny Sullivan, brings a deep understanding of the IndyCar world to the role. He later transitioned to othre teams before becoming the managing director of NASCAR’s Cup Series in the 2010s.
“I am thrilled to return to my racing roots in IndyCar,” Buck said.“I have always kept my eye on the sport, and the opportunity to be the director of Indy NXT was something I could not pass up. The developmental series is on the rise as it continues to advance talent to the premier open-wheel series in North america.”
Buck’s appointment follows a thorough search that considered several candidates, including former IndyCar drivers and current team members eager to lead NXT.
“The competition is fierce, and the future is bright for Indy NXT by Firestone,” said IndyCar president Jay Frye. “With his vast motorsports experience, Richard is a tremendous fit for the series’ leadership role, and we are excited to welcome him back into the IndyCar family.”

Indianapolis, IN – Richard Buck, a veteran indycar crew chief with decades of experience, has been appointed director of the Indy NXT Series, Penske Entertainment announced today. Buck will assume his new role on January 6th.
Buck, best known for his tenure with Penske Racing, guided legendary drivers like Rick Mears, emerson Fittipaldi, and Danny Sullivan to victory lane. He later held leadership positions with other IndyCar teams before transitioning to NASCAR, where he served as managing director of the Cup Series.
