Richard Carapaz Withdraws from Vuelta a España, Eyes Worlds
Richard Carapaz will not compete in the upcoming Vuelta a España due to an infection that previously caused him to withdraw from the Tour de France, hindering his training. He is almost fully recovered and will focus on the late-season Italian classics, particularly Il Lombardia, and the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda.
The Kigali World Championships route features 5,475 metres of climbing over 276.5 kilometres, with a significant climb (Mount Kigali) just outside 100km to go, making it a course favorable to climbers. Carapaz believes this course presents a significant possibility for him and is currently training at altitude in Ecuador to prepare.
With Carapaz out of the Vuelta, EF Education-EasyPost will field a young squad aiming to attack each stage as a one-day race. The team will include riders such as Archie ryan, Markel Beloki, Lukas Nerurkar, and Jardi van der Lee.
