Richard Wesley, a highly touted five-star defensive end, has announced his commitment to the University of Texas. The announcement, made via social media Sunday night, follows Wesley’s official visit with the Longhorns. Wesley is considered the No.18 overall prospect in the 2026 ESPN 300.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound pass rusher from Chatsworth, Calif., is ranked as the nation’s No. 3 defensive end in his class. Wesley initially committed to Oregon in May but decommitted weeks later, reopening his recruitment. He is the second five-star recruit in Texas’ 2026 class, joining quarterback Dia Bell.

Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M were also contenders for Wesley’s commitment. His pledge to Oregon last month, made in a video with Ducks coach Dan Lanning, was short-lived. Sources indicated at the time that his recruitment remained open.
Sources believe Wesley’s commitment to Texas is more solid. He is the second-ranked of 10 ESPN 300 recruits in coach Steve Sarkisian’s incoming class. The addition of Wesley highlights a strong month of defensive line recruiting for the Longhorns. Four-star defensive tackle Vodney Cleveland committed to Texas on Saturday, following commitments from Corey Wells and Dylan Berymon earlier in June. Wesley is now a cornerstone of Texas’ talented defensive line class.
