Richmond Women’s Swimming Competes at CSCAA Open Water Championship
Spiders Make Waves at National Open Water Championship
MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Richmond women’s swimming and diving team made a splash at the CSCAA College National Open Water Championship, held in the scenic Biscayne Bay.The Spiders secured a strong sixth-place team finish, led by a standout performance from junior Natalie Stuart.
Stuart powered thru the challenging 5K course, finishing in an impressive 1:07:28.43 with a 21:44 pace. Her determination earned her a commendable 16th place finish out of a competitive field of 108 swimmers.
Freshman Carys Edgar also made a notable debut, clocking in at 1:09:35.66 with a 22:25 pace to secure 29th place. Junior Katie Chignell rounded out the Spiders’ top performers, finishing 42nd with a time of 1:10:02.60 and a 22:33 pace.
The Spiders will now turn their attention to the new year, gearing up to welcome Villanova to the Robins center for Senior Day on Saturday, January 18 at 9 a.m.

Matt Baracco: Thank you. We are incredibly proud of our women’s swimming and diving team. They trained hard and brought their A-game to a very competitive national championship.
NewsDirectory3: Natalie Stuart had a fantastic race.Can you tell us a bit about her performance?
Matt Baracco: Natalie is an incredibly dedicated athlete, and she put in the work to prepare for this race. Her 16th place finish is a testament to her perseverance and talent.
NewsDirectory3: Carys Edgar also had a great collegiate debut. What did you think of her performance?
Matt Baracco: We are thrilled with Carys’ performance. She showed great poise for a freshman competing at the national level. It’s exciting to see what she can accomplish in the years to come.
NewsDirectory3: What are the team’s goals for the remainder of the season?
Matt Baracco: We’re looking forward to getting back in the pool and preparing for our upcoming meets. We have a strong team and Energetic sous looking to make a splash in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
