Rick Ross,the rapper and entrepreneur,was recently honored in his hometown of Clarksdale,Miss.,with a street named after him. The dedication of “Rick Ross Way” coincided with Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery.
City officials hope the street will inspire residents.Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy said seeing Ross’s name will remind people that success is absolutely possible, nonetheless of their background.Ross himself expressed pride in Clarksdale, calling it beautiful, creative, and home to manny artists. His mother, Tommie Roberts, was present at the ceremony.
Roberts noted the sacrifices Ross made throughout his career, including missing family events. She said that while the public sees the glamour, there is also heartache.
Earlier in June, Ross received a proclamation from Georgia Congresswoman Nikema Williams for his contributions to the state. Even though from Miami, Ross has deep ties in Georgia through his businesses and community work.His annual Car & Bike Show, Wingstop franchises, real estate ventures, job creation, and “Boss Up” conferences for Historically Black Colleges and Universities were all recognized.
