Rihanna’s ’Smurfs’ Premiere Brings Blue Hues to Brussels

brussels, Belgium, embraced all things Smurf on Saturday as Rihanna, along with other celebrities, attended the world premiere of the new Smurfs movie.The Grammy-winning artist, visibly pregnant, produced the live-action animated reboot and lends her voice to the character of Smurfette.
The film centers on Smurfette leading a rescue mission to save Papa Smurf. At the Brussels showing, Rihanna interacted with children and posed with a person dressed as Smurfette. She also walked arm-in-arm with A$AP Rocky, her partner, as they joined the audience.
Chris Miller, the film’s director, was seen holding Smurfs toys. Other cast members, including James Corden and Dan Levy, also attended the premiere. Many guests sported blue attire in honor of the Smurfs.
The Smurfs, originally created by Belgian comics artist Peyo (known as “schtroumpfs” in Belgium), were celebrated throughout Brussels. The city’s Mannekin Pis statue was dressed as No Name Smurf, and Smurf-themed events took place in the Grand-Place. Tourist buses and train cars were also decorated in blue.
Rihanna announced her pregnancy in early May before the Met Gala,where she showcased her baby bump. A$AP Rocky, with whom Rihanna is expecting her third child, co-chaired this year’s Met Gala alongside Pharrell Williams, Colman domingo, and Lewis Hamilton. LeBron James served as the honorary chair.
Rihanna and Rocky are parents to 3-year-old RZA Athelston Mayers and 1-year-old Riot Rose Mayers. The Smurfs film is set to premiere in the U.S.on July 18.
