French-Palestinian Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan was taken into police custody in France on Thursday, April 16, 2026, for alleged “apology for terrorism” following a social media post about Palestinian resistance.
The arrest stems from a post Hassan shared on March 26, 2026, on the platform X, in which she shared an article about Japanese pro-Palestinian activist Kozo Okamoto, a former member of the Japanese Red Army who participated in the 1972 Lod Airport attack in Israel that resulted in 26 deaths. Hassan accompanied the post with a quote from Okamoto stating: “I gave my youth to the Palestinian cause. As long as there is oppression, resistance is not only a right, it is a duty.”
