Silver Spring, MD (October 29, 2024) – Nonprofit developer MHP invites media to a groundbreaking ceremony for its $86 million The Chimes affordable housing development in North Bethesda. The Chimes is a new multifamily mixed-income property that will include 163 apartments designed to accommodate individuals earning less than 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). The vast majority (90%) of the property’s apartments will be exclusively occupied by individuals earning less than 60% of AMI.
Located half a mile from the North Bethesda Metro, The Chimes will bring 172,720 square feet of residential space to the bustling area, providing residents with extensive transportation options, high-quality schools and other amenities while providing greater access to the outdoors for the public space. At an upcoming groundbreaking ceremony, MHP will reveal more details about the project’s unique features, green elements and musical themes.

The groundbreaking ceremony will feature speeches by prominent local leaders, including Montgomery County Supervisor Marc Elrich, MHP President Robert A. Goldman, elected officials, and project stakeholders , resident spokesperson, etc.
Through this development, MHP will transform a vacant and environmentally constrained site into much-needed affordable housing and deliver public improvements to pedestrian and vehicular circulation, open space, river restoration and cycling infrastructure. The property will contain six floors of high-efficiency, one-, two- and three-bedroom units with indoor amenity spaces above two levels of structured parking. Upon completion, Nebel will provide modern affordable housing with building amenities such as a community center, on-site leasing offices, classrooms, and more. Its unique pocket parks, plazas and natural lookouts will be open to the public. The property is conveniently located close to transport options, services, retail, highly regarded schools and the Pike & Rose mixed-use development, offering residents numerous resources, amenities and potential employment opportunities.
