Ringo Starr Backs Barry Keoghan’s Role in Beatles Biopic: Actor Takes Drum Lessons
Dubliner Could Star as Ringo Starr in Upcoming Beatles Biopic
Dubliner Barry Keoghan is reportedly in talks to play Ringo Starr in a new biopic about The Beatles. This film will present four distinct perspectives on the band from each member. It is the first time the surviving Beatles and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have authorized a complete portrayal of their lives and music.
Ringo Starr discussed the potential casting during an interview. He expressed excitement about Keoghan’s involvement and mentioned that the actor may be taking drum lessons. Starr humorously questioned how many lessons Keoghan might require, implying that too many could hinder his learning.
In addition to Keoghan, actor Paul Mescal is rumored to be in consideration for another role in the film, directed by Sam Mendes. The casting speculation includes names like Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson for other Beatles roles.
Keoghan gained recognition after starring in films like Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. He recently acted in The Banshees of Inisherin, earning a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Academy Awards. He also starred in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, receiving Golden Globe and Bafta nominations for Best Actor.
The biopic was announced alongside the release of a Beatles documentary, tapping into the band’s legacy. This new project promises a comprehensive narrative that fans are eager to see.
Starr is currently preparing to release his first album in six years, titled Look Up, set for release in January. The biopic and the documentary highlight the ongoing interest in The Beatles and their impact on music history.
