São Paulo Intensifies Dengue Prevention ⁤with Street-Level Agent Visits

The São Paulo Municipal ⁣Health department (SMS)‌ is expanding‌ its preventative measures against arboviruses – dengue, Zika, and chikungunya – thru increased home visits by health agents as of January 20, 2026.

Details of the “SVS na⁤ Rua” Strategy

The SMS initiative, known as “SVS na Rua” (SVS on the Street), aims to proactively identify and eliminate ‍breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector⁤ for these diseases. Health agents‌ are visiting residences to educate residents about preventative measures, inspect properties‍ for standing water, and offer‍ guidance on eliminating potential mosquito habitats. This strategy represents a focused effort to reduce the incidence of arboviral diseases within ‌the city.

Evidence of Increased Activity

According to a statement released by the⁢ SMS on January 18, 2026, the number of health agents participating in “SVS na rua” has increased by 30% compared to the same period⁤ in 2025. In 2025, ⁢São Paulo recorded 1,457 confirmed cases‍ of dengue ⁤fever, according to data from the State Health Secretariat (Secretaria Estadual da Saúde). The⁣ SMS anticipates a potential surge in ⁣cases during ⁣the rainy season (December-March) and is bolstering its⁣ preventative efforts accordingly. ‍The initiative is being supported by a budget of R$‌ 5 million allocated for agent training and resource distribution.

Quote from the SMS: “The ‘SVS na Rua’ strategy is crucial for interrupting the ⁣transmission cycle ‍of‌ arboviruses and protecting the health of our population,” stated dr. Carina Bottoni,Coordinator of Vector Control at the SMS,in a press conference ⁤on January 19,2026.
