At around 11:56 AM on this day, Mr. A was windsurfing about 0.37 km (0.2 nautical miles) northwest of Jisimdo, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, when his sail broke due to strong winds, rendering his boat unable to sail.
The Coast Guard, which was dispatched after receiving a report from the group, dispatched a coastal rescue boat and discovered Mr. A, who was drifting on a board using a sail as an oar, and safely rescued him.
It was reported that Mr. A and his party departed from Jisepo Port at around 11:30 AM that day and were practicing windsurfing to participate in the National Windsurfing Competition to be held in Geoje City on the 28th.
Person A returned home without any major health problems, the Coast Guard reported.
Currently, a strong wind and wave warning is in effect for the eastern sea off Geoje City.
A Changwon Coast Guard official said, “When engaging in water leisure activities, be sure to check the weather conditions before engaging in them,” and “Please refrain from engaging in activities when the weather is bad, such as when there is a strong wind or wave warning.”
