Rishikesh to Get Uttarakhand’s First Indoor Badminton Court for PwDs

Rishikesh is set to establish Uttarakhand’s first indoor badminton court dedicated to persons with disabilities (PwDs). The facility is being developed in Ganga Nagar by the Dehradun district administration to provide inclusive sports infrastructure for para-athletes in the region.
The project is being implemented at a total cost of Rs 62.7 lakh. Funding for the facility is being managed by the Dehradun district administration, which has already released an initial installment of Rs 25.4 lakh to the Rishikesh Municipal Corporation. An additional Rs 37.3 lakh has been approved to cover the remaining costs of the development.
Infrastructure and Development Timeline
The indoor court is located in the Ganga Nagar area of Rishikesh. According to Rishikesh municipal commissioner Gopal Ram Binwal, the facility is expected to be completed and ready for use within three months of the April 3, 2026, announcement.
The development of this court marks a first for the state of Uttarakhand in terms of providing a dedicated indoor badminton space specifically designed for athletes with disabilities.
Objectives for Athlete Development
District magistrate Savin Bansal stated that the primary goal of the facility is to ensure that athletes with disabilities have access to a dedicated indoor environment for training and competition.
This will help bring hidden talent to the fore and enable them to compete at state, national and international levels

Bansal emphasized that the administration views the development of basic amenities for PwDs as a priority. He noted that the indoor court is intended to support the physical health of the athletes and serve as a tool to help integrate them into the social mainstream.
