Rising Irish Star Shines as Assassin in New Netflix Series: Must-Watch Thriller
Rising Irish actress Ella Lily Hyland stars in Netflix’s new spy thriller series, Black Doves. The show premieres on Thursday, December 5. Hyland plays Williams, a freelance assassin in the six-episode series created by Joe Barton, known for Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project.
Hyland describes her character, Williams, as dark, playful, and quirky. “She’s a killer for hire who loves to provoke others. She has little understanding of empathy and has been in this role since her teenage years,” Hyland explains.
The series is set in London during Christmas. It follows Helen Webb, played by Keira Knightley, a witty and dedicated wife and professional spy. For ten years, she has shared her husband’s secrets with a covert group called the Black Doves. When her lover, Jason, is killed, her superior, Reed (Sarah Lancashire), enlists Helen’s friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) to protect her.
Helen and Sam investigate Jason’s death, uncovering a conspiracy that connects London’s underworld to a larger political crisis. The cast includes Andrew Koji, Andrew Buchan, Omari Douglas, and Tracey Ullman.
Hyland has also appeared in the tennis drama Fifteen-Love and will feature in the BBC’s upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation, Towards Zero. She has performed in Lady Gregory’s play Grania at the Abbey Theatre.
