China Badminton Open Ends with Fuzhou Teenager Weng Hongyang Winning Men’s Singles Championship
The 2024 Victor China Open Badminton Championships recently concluded in Changzhou, Jiangsu, with the Chinese team securing victories in the men’s singles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles championships. Weng Hongyang from Fuzhou emerged as the champion in the men’s singles final, defeating Japanese star Naraoka Kodai with a score of 21:17, 21:12.
This marks Weng Hongyang’s first BWF Super 1000 championship win. In a post-match interview, Weng expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s been a long time since I won this championship!” He also shared his plans to review his performance, maintain a good state, and strive for better results in preparation for next year’s World Championships.
Weng Hongyang was born in 1999 and began training under Coach Chen Bihong at Fuzhou Sports School. He joined the Chinese National Badminton Team in March 2018. This victory marks the first time a Chinese player has won the men’s singles championship of the China Open in seven years, with the last Chinese champion being Chen Long.
