Rising Star on the Diamond: Yuma Teramoto’s Journey to Baseball Greatness
Yuma Teramoto (2nd year), who took the mound at Koshien in the spring and summer, is expected to be Meiho’s new ace. In the prefectural high school baseball championship, which was the first official game for the new team, he was entrusted with the starting mound in the final, but he was on the bench when the team won the championship. Teramoto said, “I’m happy that we won as a team, but I couldn’t pitch the ninth inning. The ball went out at the end, and I couldn’t pitch the way I wanted to.”
The small, 166cm tall, 58kg left-handed pitcher has the nerve and control to hit the inside of the batter’s pitch. There are many pitchers who roar every time they get out of a pinch, but Teramoto has a “poker face.” He leaves the mound without moving a single eyebrow, with an expression that says it’s only natural that he should hold them back. Coach Kawasaki Kenpei knows that Teramoto is a quietly fighting type, but explains that he did not give him the ace number “1” in the prefectural championship because “I didn’t see any desire to help the team win with his own strength.”
He pitched wearing number 10 in the prefectural championships.
