Ocean Park in Hong Kong is mourning the loss of Rita, a 24-year-old Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin.The marine mammal, a popular attraction, died after exhibiting fatigue and a decreased appetite.
Rita had resided at the park for approximately 13 years, having been relocated from Tunisia. Park officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The bottlenose dolphin was a key part of the park’s marine life program.
Veterinarians at Ocean Park conducted thorough examinations and blood tests in an effort to diagnose and treat Rita, with caretakers providing round-the-clock attention. Despite these efforts, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away Sunday afternoon.
