Response and Investigation
Riverton Fire and EMS were first on the scene,with police officers reporting smoke and a strong smell to dispatch. Due to the building’s size, the incident was initially escalated to a reported structure fire, leading to requests for mutual aid from the Springfield, Dawson, and Sherman Fire Protection Districts.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered light smoke and traced the odor to the furnace in the maintenance room. A thorough investigation revealed no active fire. the Dawson Fire Protection District remained on scene to assist.
School Operations Resume
After safely deactivating the furnace and confirming no further hazard, firefighters cleared the building for re-entry. School personnel were permitted to return, and students resumed their regular activities following the all-clear.
