Rivier Women’s Hockey Blanks Anna Maria for Second Straight Win
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Rivier University women’s ice hockey team continued their winning ways Saturday night, shutting out Anna Maria College 3-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup at Buffone Arena.
The Raiders (4-7-0, 3-1-0 MASCAC) dominated from the start, scoring twice in the first period too take control. Sophomore forward Rebecca McKelvey set up junior defender Olivia Schultz for her first collegiate goal just 4:40 into the game.
“It felt amazing to finally get that first goal,” said Schultz. “becky made a great pass, and I just tried to put it on net.”
Rivier doubled their lead with just over three minutes remaining in the first period. Senior forward Briana Paxson found sophomore forward Tia Picardi on a breakaway, and Picardi deftly maneuvered past the Anna Maria defense to score.
The AMCATS (2-6-0, 2-4-0 MASCAC) fought back in the second period, outshooting Rivier 9-6, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The Raiders regained momentum in the third period, outshooting anna Maria 9-7 and sealing the victory with an empty-net goal from Brianna Parent with 21.8 seconds remaining.The goal was Parent’s second point of the game and her fourth of the weekend.Senior goalkeeper Rachel Hinkley was stellar in net for Rivier, recording 24 saves for her second shutout of the season.
“Rachel was fantastic tonight,” said Rivier head coach. “She made some big saves when we needed them most.”
The Raiders will look to extend their winning streak next Saturday,January 11th,when they travel to New York to face Manhattanville College in a non-conference matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.at Playland Ice Casino.

Worcester, MA - We spoke to Rivier University women’s ice hockey coach [Coach’s Name] after their impressive 3-0 shutout victory over Anna Maria College on Saturday night.The win marks the Raiders’ second consecutive MASCAC victory, propelling them to a 3-1-0 record in conference play.
“we came out strong tonight and played a complete game,” coach [Coach’s name] shared. “The team executed the game plan well, and it was great to see contributions from everyone on the roster.”
The Raiders’ dominance was evident from the opening puck drop, with sophomore forward Rebecca McKelvey setting up junior defender Olivia Schultz for her first collegiate goal just 4 minutes into the game.

Rivier doubled their lead in the first period on a breakaway goal by sophomore Tia Picardi, assisted by senior Briana Paxson.
Though Anna Maria fought back in the second period, applying pressure with 9 shots on goal, they were unable to break through Rivier’s solid defensive wall anchored by senior goalkeeper Rachel Hinkley.
hinkley was a standout performer, recording her second shutout of the season with 24 saves.

The Raiders sealed the victory late in the third period with an empty-net goal from Brianna Parent, her second point of the game and fourth of the weekend. The impressive win extends Rivier’s winning streak to two games.
looking ahead, Rivier will face a non-conference challenge against Manhattanville College next Saturday, January 11th. Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM at Playland Ice Casino in New York.
