Roadie’s GPS Feature Aims ⁣to Curb⁢ Delivery Driver Account Sharing

Updated June⁢ 19, 2025

Roadie‍ is developing a GPS-based feature ⁤to combat delivery fraud and account sharing among its drivers. The new ⁤system is designed to prevent drivers from marking a⁤ delivery as complete unless they are physically at the designated⁤ drop-off location. This measure is intended to ensure that packages are delivered to the⁤ correct‍ address and to deter drivers from ‍sharing accounts.

The GPS feature will block⁤ delivery workers from completing the final delivery step if they are not⁣ within the⁤ correct⁣ area. Roadie⁤ hopes this will reduce fraud and improve delivery accuracy.

Other companies are also‍ implementing measures to prevent account sharing. Walmart uses facial recognition technology and requires some drivers ‍to verify their identities in person. Uber conducts real-time ID checks, ‍and DoorDash ⁤requires drivers to verify their identities more frequently.

According to ⁣roadie’s Moon, detecting fraud can be tough because it can resemble innocent mistakes, such as a driver being ⁢unable to take⁤ a photo ‍at drop-off due to poor cell service or⁣ a device ‍issue.

Moon said he encourages Roadie’s trust and Safety employees to ⁢investigate ⁤thoroughly before deactivating a contractor’s account.

“The app will tell them, ‘You can’t take a picture, it is not in ⁤the geofence zone of where that package should be,'” he said.

“I tell the team ‍all the time,‍ we’ve got to communicate,” he said. “You don’t just deactivate a driver.”

What’s next

Roadie plans to roll out‍ the GPS feature‍ in the coming months, pending final testing and implementation. The company will continue to monitor and refine ⁢its fraud detection methods to balance security ⁢with the needs of its drivers.
