Jake Reiner, the eldest son of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner, has spoken publicly for the first time about the profound grief he has endured since the deaths of his parents in December 2025. He recounted learning of his parents’ deaths while attending a celebration of life for a friend who had passed in October 2025. His sister Romy called to inform him their father had died, and minutes later called again to say their mother was gone as well. “My world, as I knew it, had collapsed. I was in a trance,” Jake wrote, describing the immediate aftermath as a blur of disbelief and urgency to reach his childhood home and be with his sister.

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead in the primary bedroom of their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025, by paramedics responding to an emergency call. Authorities confirmed both had suffered stab wounds. Jake’s younger brother, Nick Reiner, was taken into custody hours later approximately 15 miles from the residence and has since been charged with two counts of murder, including special circumstance allegations for multiple murders and the use of a deadly weapon.
