Rob Shaw Wraps Up 2024 Wheelchair Tennis Season: Highlights and Rankings
The 2024 Wheelchair Tennis season is coming to a close with a few tournaments left. In Arnhem, Netherlands, Canada’s top player, Rob Shaw, finished his season at the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters.
Shaw’s Performance at the Masters
Rob Shaw qualified for the championships but faced challenges due to an injury. He did not win any of his matches, finishing with a record of 0-3 in the group stage and did not advance.
Despite the early exit, Shaw had an impressive 2024 season. At 34 years old, he won seven ITF titles, including two in singles and five in doubles. His standout victory was at the Swiss Open in Geneva, where he captured his first ITF Series 1 title. Shaw also reached the quarter-finals in singles at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
Last Event in Montreal
The last event of the Canadian wheelchair tennis calendar is the Bourassa Savaria International Open, taking place in Montreal. This hard-court tournament will feature men’s and women’s singles, doubles, boys’ singles, and a quad division. The event is scheduled for November 28 to December 1 at IGA Stadium.
Rankings Update
As the season winds down, Rob Shaw is again the top-ranked Canadian, finishing just outside his career-high at world No. 7 in the quad division. Thomas Venos from B.C. reached a career-high ranking of 50th in singles and 43rd in doubles. Eighteen-year-old Frédérique Bérubé-Perron also had a successful season, finishing ranked 66th in singles.
