Guernsey Tumbling Squad Celebrates First National Medal Win

The Guernsey Tumbling Squad achieved a historic milestone, securing its first-ever national medal at the English Gymnastics Championships in Telford. Among the team’s largest contingent to date, 10-year-old robbie clinched a bronze medal, marking a significant achievement for the young athletes.
Coach Bobby Montague lauded the team’s dedication and progress. He noted the squad’s hard work and individual improvements have culminated in this success at the English Gymnastics Championships.
Robbie is preparing to participate in the second qualifier for the British Gymnastics Championships later in June, building on his recent success in gymnastics.
It was very exciting as when I started I didn’t really know much about it and three and a half years later I won a bronze medal at the English Gymnastics Championships!

Robbie described the experience in Telford as “very nerve-wracking,” but added that he “loves how it’s really fun.” He incorporated a new combination of tumbles, including whips, flicks, and a full twist with a straight back ending, in his routine.
Montague highlighted that this was the first time a gymnast from the squad had competed in the elite category. He also noted that team members Rosie and Myra were ranked 11th nationally, while Mason achieved a fourth-place ranking.

What’s next
Looking ahead, Robbie aspires to compete in the World Gymnastic Championships, viewing it as an amazing achievement nonetheless of the outcome.The Guernsey Tumbling Squad aims to continue its development and build on this success in future competitions.
