Robert De Niro Returns as CIA Operative Jack Byrnes

The Meet the Parents franchise is returning to theaters with a fourth installment titled Focker In-Law, scheduled for release during the Thanksgiving window of 2026. The film reunites Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in their iconic roles as Greg Focker and Jack Byrnes, 16 years after the previous entry in the series.

A new trailer released by Paramount Pictures introduces the central conflict of the film, which focuses on Greg Focker’s struggles as a father. The plot revolves around the engagement of Greg’s son, played by Skyler Gisondo, to a woman named Olivia Jones, portrayed by Ariana Grande.

New Cast Additions and Returning Roles

Ariana Grande joins the franchise as Olivia Jones, a trained FBI hostage negotiator. In the teaser, Grande’s character is seen undergoing a lie detector test administered by Jack Byrnes. The trailer indicates that Jack is immediately impressed by Olivia, which creates friction with Greg, who views his son’s fiancée as a mismatch.

Alongside the new additions of Grande, Beanie Feldstein and Skyler Gisondo, several core cast members return to their roles:

The dynamic between the characters shifts as Jack Byrnes, the retired CIA operative, appears to embrace Olivia into the family, prompting Greg to attempt to undermine her through various unsuccessful methods.

Ben Stiller has spoken positively about his experience working with Ariana Grande. During an appearance on The Tonight Show in November 2025, Stiller praised Grande’s comedic talent and sweetness, noting that while they had previously crossed paths during a cameo in Zoolander 2 approximately 10 years prior, this project marked a significant collaboration.

Grande confirmed in the fall of 2025 that she had already completed filming for her role in the sequel.

The original Meet the Parents, released in 2000, established the tension between Greg Focker and his father-in-law, Jack Byrnes, a former CIA agent. Focker In-Law seeks to replicate that chemistry while aging the characters, with Robert De Niro portraying a version of Jack Byrnes who is older and more mellow.
