The Dec. 8 Instagram post,which has as been widely shared,featured a screenshot of a supposed X (formerly Twitter) post from Kennedy. The⁢ post read: “BREAKING: ⁣Effective January 20th, I will‌ be BANNING all consumption of Diet Coke in the United‍ States.”

While Kennedy, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead‍ the Department of ⁤Health adn Human Services,⁢ has expressed concerns‍ about processed foods​ and sugary drinks, he did not make any‌ such announcement about banning Diet Coke.

A review ⁤of Kennedy’s official X account, @RobertKennedyJr, found no mention of Diet‌ Coke or any ban on‌ the beverage.

The misleading post originated from⁤ a parody account, @RFKJrHealthSec, ⁢which uses the same profile and cover⁤ photos ‍as Kennedy’s real account. Though,on mobile devices,the parody account’s⁢ full display name,”Robert F. Kennedy Jr⁢ – Health Secretary Parody,” is truncated, making it appear ​as Kennedy’s genuine account.

This parody account⁤ has ‌a history of posting satirical content about food and business bans, including ‍a Dec. 4 post about a Diet Coke ban that garnered over 9.5 million views by⁣ Dec.9.

Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich.,shared the parody ⁣post on Dec. 5, ‌adding a photo of a Diet Coke can with ‌the caption “Come ​and​ take it.” Dingell’s spokesperson confirmed to PolitiFact that the representative was aware the post was from a parody account and responded with ‌a humorous retort.It’s worth noting that former⁤ President Trump was known ‌for his fondness for Diet Coke, reportedly consuming up to⁤ 12 cans daily. He even had a dedicated button on his Oval Office desk to summon the beverage.

In a November 2023 interview, Kennedy criticized Trump’s diet, calling the food he consumed “poison.” However,‍ kennedy never mentioned banning Diet Coke specifically.
