Roblox has reached a $12 million settlement with the state of Nevada to resolve claims that the platform failed to adequately protect young users from harm, avoiding litigation over allegations related to child safety and exploitation.

The agreement, announced by Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, includes both financial commitments and platform-wide safety enhancements designed to improve protections for minors using the service.

As part of the settlement, Roblox will contribute $10 million over three years to support youth programs such as the Boys and Girls Club and other non-digital activities. The funds are intended to provide alternative, supervised environments for children and reduce reliance on online platforms during critical developmental hours.

the settlement finances the creation of a law enforcement liaison position within the Nevada Attorney General’s office to monitor and respond to safety concerns originating from the Roblox platform. This role will serve as a direct channel for reporting incidents and coordinating investigations involving potential risks to young users.

Roblox will also fund an online safety awareness campaign aimed at educating parents, educators, and children about digital risks and responsible platform use. The campaign will focus on recognizing signs of exploitation, understanding privacy settings, and promoting healthy online habits.

To strengthen protections directly within the platform, Roblox will implement several technical and procedural changes. These include requiring age verification for all users, restricting night-time notifications for accounts held by minors, and limiting chat functionality in certain contexts to reduce opportunities for unwanted contact or grooming behaviors.

The settlement resolves claims that Roblox did not do enough to shield underage users from harmful interactions, including inappropriate messaging and exposure to unsafe content. While the company did not admit fault, it emphasized its commitment to improving safety standards.

“Roblox is proud to have worked alongside Attorney General Ford to reach this landmark agreement, which builds on our work to establish a new standard for digital safety,” said Matt Kaufman, Roblox’s chief safety officer, in a statement released following the announcement.

Attorney General Ford described the agreement as a first-of-its-kind effort to hold digital platforms accountable for youth protection. He expressed hope that the settlement would serve as a model for other states seeking to strengthen oversight of online environments frequented by children.

The announcement comes amid increasing legal scrutiny of social media and gaming platforms across the United States. Similar lawsuits alleging inadequate safeguards for minors have been filed in states including Texas and Kentucky, reflecting a broader trend of regulatory action aimed at tech companies’ impact on young users.

Roblox, which reports that nearly half of all U.S. Children under the age of 16 use its platform, remains under investigation in multiple jurisdictions. The Nevada settlement does not resolve those ongoing matters but may influence how other attorneys general approach similar claims.

With the agreement now finalized, Roblox will begin implementing the required safety upgrades and distributing funds to community programs. State officials will monitor compliance over the three-year term of the financial commitments.
