Rock in Rio Ripped Off: Authorities Seize 2 Tonnes of Fake Merchandise

Action Seizes Two Tonnes⁢ of Counterfeit Products with the Rock in Rio Brand

Cups, shirts, ‌hats, and caps would be distributed⁤ to street vendors

A joint action by the Police Station for ‌Combating Crimes against ​Intangible Property (DRCPIM) and the‍ state Public ⁤Prosecutor’s Office ‍led‍ to the seizure ‍of two tonnes of counterfeit materials bearing the brand of the Rock in Rio music festival, which takes place in​ the city. The seizure happened this⁣ Thursday (19),⁣ in the center of Rio.

During the operation, four suspects, who were responsible for the stores‌ where the products were located, were ⁤arrested. They will​ respond for selling counterfeit material ⁤displays the brand⁤ illegally.

Among the products ⁣seized are thousands of‍ cups, shirts, hats, and caps, which would​ be distributed to street vendors​ for resale in the second week of the event. The material was found through intelligence information,‌ which continues the ‌actions started during the first week of the ⁣festival.

Last week, two operations led to the seizure⁢ of a large amount of counterfeit material.⁣ The police station specializing ​in the repression of Crimes Against Intangible Property, together with the MP of Rio and the prosecutor of the Special Criminal Court (Jecrim), found more than 5,300 glasses, 185 fake caps, and thousands of‍ cup holders on a day the first of the event ⁣on the 13th of ⁣this month. Two⁢ men‍ were arrested red-handed, ⁤in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio.

The following ‍day, during operations near Rock in Rio, teams found a truck with thousands ⁢of fake cups and cup ⁢holder handles bearing the ​festival’s brand. A credit card machine‌ and‍ false details were also seized.

So far, ​the actions⁣ have⁤ led to the ​seizure of more than 15 thousand items and the arrest of 10 suspects.
