Rockstar Games has installed a large “Welcome to Vice City” sign on the roof of the Kaseya Center in Miami, spending $975,000 under a marketing agreement with Miami-Dade County ahead of the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
A Million-Dollar Rooftop Stunt in Miami
The marketing campaign for Grand Theft Auto 6 kicked off on September 22, 2026, when a helicopter lifted sections of the giant sign onto the roof of the arena, home to the Miami Heat basketball team. According to Miami Herald journalist Doug Hanks, Miami-Dade County is set to collect $975,000 from Rockstar for the placement. Fans tracked the construction for days through social media posts and live city cam footage, culminating in a flat-facing installation designed to be seen by passengers flying over the venue. GamesRadar noted that the sign lies flat on the roof, leaving it unclear whether it will later be raised for ground-level visibility. Documents reviewed by IGN reveal that the installation had an October 15 deadline, allowing Rockstar the option to terminate the deal if the sign was not up by that date. The agreement dictates that the display will remain on the arena until the later of two dates: one year after installation, or the last Miami Heat home game of the 2026/27 season, scheduled for April 11, 2027.
Broader City Takeovers and Local Objections
The Kaseya Center rooftop is only one element of a wider promotional push across South Florida. GamesRadar reported that Miami-Dade County is hosting the most elaborate displays, while Miami Beach and the City of Miami also established deals with Rockstar. Discussions in August included pitches for various events and a potential takeover of the airport, though officials have not confirmed which of those plans will proceed. The campaign faced resistance from some local figures. IGN noted that a contentious debate emerged over whether the city should promote a video game centered around crime, where players can shoot police officers and civilians. Some local police members and the Miami-Dade sheriff opposed the marketing effort, but local officials ultimately approved the campaign.
Upcoming Schedule and Game Launch Details
The Miami Heat will play their first regular season home game at the Kaseya Center on October 21, roughly four weeks before the game hits store shelves. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has released few details about the game since its Extended Look debuted on Netflix, aside from publishing modding guidelines restricting new missions, maps, and ports, while external reports continue to fuel anticipation for the title’s multiplayer rollout.
