Roger Vivier celebrated the launch of its new Rizzoli book in New York City on April 12, 2013, bringing a touch of Parisian flair to the French Embassy, according to Vogue.
The event, held at the French Embassy, honored the brand’s rich history and its current direction. Guests were greeted with the quote, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world,” attributed to Bette Midler. The space was decorated with giant paper flowers and oversize prints from the book, showcasing iconic images of style icons like Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve wearing Roger Vivier designs.
The book itself features archival magazine pages, scrapbook scans, and sketches, alongside a look at the brand’s contemporary designs. Bruno Frisoni, the creative director appointed a decade prior, co-hosted the event and reflected on the brand’s evolution, asking, “What is Roger Vivier today?”
“After ten years, I think You can ask, ‘What is Roger Vivier today?’ ”

Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea commented on the brand’s ability to blend heritage with modern innovation, noting its appeal to a “woman that is sexy, strong, and interesting.” She also confessed to a childhood fondness for the brand’s signature Virgule heels, having “stolen a pair of her mom’s Virgule heels.”
The launch also included a performance by Karen Elson, who wore a Saint Laurent dress and “very foxy” Roger Vivier heels during her 20-minute set. Other attendees included brand ambassador and cohost Inès de la Fressange, Lauren Remington Platt, Anya Ziourova, and Vogue’s Emily Holt, Mark Holgate, and Tabitha Simmons.
Genevieve Jones summarized the enduring appeal of Roger Vivier shoes, stating, “You know you’re buying something for life, not just a season.” The event highlighted the brand’s lasting impact on the fashion world and its continued relevance in contemporary style.
The new monograph, titled Roger Vivier, Heritage and Imagination, was published in partnership with Rizzoli on January 27th. The book is designed as a cultural object, celebrating the brand’s legacy and its vision for the future.
