Freely Streaming Platform Expands to Roku TVs in the UK
Updated June 10, 2025
The free streaming service Freely continues to broaden its availability, announcing a partnership with Roku to bring its platform to Roku TVs in the United Kingdom beginning in June. This move significantly expands the reach of Freely, which launched in 2024.
Roku-branded televisions from Sharp, JVC, and Metz will now offer Freely. Polaroid TVs will feature the service for the first time. These brands join a growing list of manufacturers already offering Freely, including Amazon, Bush, Hisense, Panasonic, Philips, TCL, and Toshiba. Freely is also available on Titan OS, TiVo, and Vida platforms.
Notably absent from the Freely lineup are Samsung TVs, which feature the company’s own TV Plus service. LG has also opted to develop its own LG Channels streaming platform, ending its agreement with Freeview Play. Additionally, Freely has not reached an agreement with Google TV, meaning some models lack access to all UK catch-up and on-demand apps.
This evolution reflects the shift toward delivering content via the internet rather than traditional broadcast antennae. While Freely-enabled TVs can still use an antenna, it is increasingly seen as a backup option.
Through Freely, users can access live streams from BBC iPlayer, Channel 4, ITVX, and other popular UK services. These streams can be paused, and a rewind function allows viewers to catch up on missed content.
What’s next
Freely plans to add more features regularly, building on previous updates such as the ”backwards TV guide” and “Never miss” functions. The platform aims to provide accessible free content, competing with subscription-based services like Netflix and Disney+.
