Burkina: The government creates an agency to promote cinema
Ouagadougou, November 6, 2024 (AIB) – The State decided on Wednesday, during the weekly meeting of ministers, to create a Burkinabè cinematography and audiovisual agency to promote the 7th art in Burkina Faso.
The traditional meeting of ministers this Wednesday, November 6, 2024, chaired by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, adopted a decree to create the Burkinabe Cinematography and Audiovisual Agency resulting from the merger of several structures.
These are the general management of the Advanced Image and Sound Institute (ISIS), FESPACO general management of the technical secretariat of the National Center for Cinematography and Audiovisual, cinematography and audiovisual management.
For the Minister of State and the Minister responsible for Culture, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, it is a question of uniting all these structures for greater coherence, harmony, rationality and above all greater efficiency.
Minister Ouédraogo also noted that the missions of this new agency, among other things, is to support the development of the value chain of the cinema and audiovisual economy in Burkina Faso, to ensure regulation and control of the cinematographic and audiovisual sector.
He also said that he will contribute to structuring actors, to establish a national cinema and an audio-visual box office and to maintain the public cinema register.
“This agency will help solve the complex issue of film and audiovisual funding. The adoption of this decree is accompanied by transitional provisions to allow the next edition of FESPACO to take place next February and for other structures to continue to operate before its implementation,” stated Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.
