Rolling to Victory: China’s Unstoppable Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team Dominates Paris Paralympics Group Stage
Chinese Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team Secures Three Consecutive Wins in Paris Paralympics Group Stage
The Chinese women’s wheelchair basketball team has made a strong start in the Paris Paralympic Games, winning three consecutive games in the group stage and advancing to the quarterfinals as the group leader.
The team, led by head coach Chen Qi, defeated their last opponent in Group A, the British team, with a score of 62:47. This win follows their previous victories against Canada (70:65) and Spain (64:38).
Despite their impressive performance, Chen Qi gave the team a modest six points, stating that they are still adapting to the large-scale competition and the presence of many spectators. He believes that if the team can play at 80% of their training level, they will have a chance to win the championship.

The team’s best result in the past was a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics, also led by Chen Qi. However, the current team has undergone significant changes, with a slightly declined overall strength compared to three years ago. The strength of the substitute lineup has improved, and the team has adjusted its tactical system to emphasize teamwork and strengthen the role of core players.
In the third group match, Zhang Tonglei scored 16 points, Zhang Xuemei scored 15 points, and Lv Guidi scored 14 points, contributing over 70% of the Chinese team’s points. Zhang Xuemei stated that the team has been working on their lineup since the end of last year and is improving with every game, overcoming challenges such as jet lag and illness.
