BC4 Level: Liang Yurong and Zhang Yuan Advance to Finals
Liang Yurong and Zhang Yuan of the BC4 level have advanced to the finals of the Paris Paralympic boccia competition. The pair, who won silver in the individual competition, faced off against the Canadian team in the semifinals.
The Canadian team scored 1 point in the first game, putting the Hong Kong team behind. However, Zhang Yuan made a brilliant move in the second game, rubbing the red ball against the blue ball to get close to the target white ball. Liang Yurong then threw the ball, hitting the blue ball and scoring 4 points in a row to take the lead.
The Hong Kong team won the game 6-4 and will compete against the Colombian team for the gold medal. Liang Yurong and Zhang Yuan were overcome with emotion after the game, with Liang Yurong saying, “I’m so excited and really happy because I said before the game that I wanted to advance to the doubles final. I finally succeeded and I’m really happy.”
BC3 Level: He Wanqi and Hsieh Teh-hua Advance to Finals
In the BC3 level, individual competition gold medalist He Wanqi and partner Hsieh Teh-hua advanced to the finals after defeating Thailand 3-2. The pair was 1 point behind in the first game but came back strong, scoring 3 points in the second and third games to win the match.
He Wanqi and Hsieh Teh-hua will compete against South Korea for the gold medal. Ho Wai-ki, representative of the Hong Kong Paris Paralympic Boccia team, said, “This year I broke through and won a gold medal in the individual event, and this time I can even reach the final in the pairs event. This feels like a ‘super must’. I think it is a big, big achievement.”
Xie Dehua, representative of the Paris Paralympic Boccia Team, added, ”He said he was very happy and excited, and he couldn’t think of anything and went blank.”
