Romania Takes to the Skies: US Clears Sale of 32 Cutting-Edge F-35 Fighter Jets
US Approves Sale of F-35 Fighter Jets to Romania and KC-46A Aerial Refueling Aircraft to Japan
The US State Department has announced the approval of two significant defense deals, one with Romania and the other with Japan, to enhance the security of its NATO allies and strengthen regional stability.
The sale of 32 F-35 fighter jets to Romania, valued at $7.2 billion, has been approved by the US State Department. This deal, which requires congressional approval, will provide Romania with 32 Lockheed Martin F-35s and related equipment. The State Department stated that the sale will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a NATO ally.
On the same day, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed that the US State Department had approved a potential contract worth $4.1 billion to provide KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft to Japan. Japan has requested to purchase nine KC-46A aircraft and related equipment, as well as mechanical, technical and logistical support services from the US Government and contractors.
The DSCA stated that this transaction will help improve Japan’s air refueling capabilities, passenger transport operations and will not change the basic military balance in the region. Prime contractors involved in the deal include Boeing, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, RTX and Northrop Grumman.
These defense deals demonstrate the US commitment to strengthening its alliances and enhancing regional security. The sales are subject to congressional approval and are expected to have a positive impact on the security and stability of the regions.
