The Rome Police Headquarters has finalized a comprehensive security and reception plan for the canonization of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, scheduled for Sunday, September 7, 2025, in st. Peter’s Square. The event is expected to draw a large number of pilgrims from across Italy and beyond.
Logistics and Transportation
A coordinated inter-agency effort will manage the influx of pilgrims. A dedicated charter train will transport many attendees directly into Vatican City via the Vatican’s railway line, with assistance from the Railway Police. Special parking areas have been designated for buses arriving from throughout Italy to streamline arrival and security checks.
Security Measures
Security protocols will begin in the early hours of September 7th with the establishment of a secure perimeter. Access to St. Peter’s Square will be controlled, requiring all attendees to pass through security checkpoints equipped with advanced metal detectors. Pilgrims will begin entering St. Peter’s Square at 6:00 AM, utilizing thirty Rapiscan and metal detector stations positioned around the Colonnade of Bernini, extending into Piazza Pio XII.
