Rome’s railway system‍ was shaken Tuesday by ⁤two separate and devastating incidents, both appearing to be suicides. The tragedies, occurring within hours of each other at the Ostiense and⁤ Ladispoli Palo stations, underscore a growing crisis of vulnerability and the urgent need for increased mental ⁤health and social support services, particularly for those experiencing homelessness.

The first ⁣incident occurred at approximately 7:20 ‍AM at Ostiense ⁢station, impacting lines ‍serving Rome-Fiumicino, Rome-Viterbo, and⁤ Rome-Pisa. The second took place around 9:30 PM⁤ at Ladispoli ⁤Palo station, affecting the FL5 ‍line. In both cases, the individuals -⁤ both identified as foreign nationals experiencing homelessness – deliberately positioned themselves on the tracks ‍as trains approached.⁣ Despite the immediate activation of sirens and emergency braking procedures by train drivers,neither attempt to prevent the collisions was accomplished.
