Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes First Person to Reach 1 Billion Social Media Followers
Sports Reporter Jang Hwan-soo reports that Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nasr) has achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first person in the world to have over 1 billion followers on his social media accounts.
Ronaldo announced on the 14th (Korea time) that the total number of his social media subscribers through Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook had surpassed 1 billion. This figure combines his followers on Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube, and Chinese social media platforms Weibo and Kuaishou.
The BBC reported that Ronaldo was the first person to reach 1 billion followers, solidifying his position as a global sports icon and social media sensation.
Ronaldo, who has made history in world football by scoring over 900 goals for his club and national team, is also the biggest star on social media. He has over 639 million followers on Instagram alone, 170 million on Facebook, and 113 million on X.
Ronaldo’s YouTube channel ‘UR Cristiano’, launched on the 21st of last month, gained over 10 million subscribers in less than 12 hours and currently has over 61 million subscribers.
Actress and singer Selena Gomez follows with 690 million followers, while Ronaldo’s long-time rival Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) has 623 million. Pop stars Justin Bieber (607 million) and Taylor Swift (574 million) also trail behind Ronaldo.
The BBC noted that Ronaldo has yet to open a TikTok or Thread account, leaving room for his following to grow further.
Ronaldo expressed his gratitude on Instagram, saying, ”1 billion followers is not just a number. It’s a testament to the passion and determination we share, and the love we have for the game and beyond. From the streets of Madeira (his hometown), I am grateful for your support.”
