Roper St. Francis Healthcare Breaks Ground on New Hospital Campus

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has commenced construction of its new Roper Hospital campus in North Charleston, S.C. The roper St. Francis Healthcare project represents a $1.2 billion investment in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
The 27-acre Roper Hospital campus growth is projected to generate a $2.5 billion economic impact and create approximately 3,600 jobs. The new facility, the fourth location for Roper Hospital, is a central element of Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s 2030 Strategic Plan. The target completion date is 2029.
The new campus will feature a full-service emergency department, multiple operating rooms including hybrid suites, modern inpatient units, and a medical office building for outpatient services. Plans also include a green belt and enhanced security systems, along with a café.
Anthony Burchard, vice president of Roper St.Francis Healthcare and president of the Roper St. Francis Foundation, emphasized the project’s meaning. “The ground-breaking of this new hospital also marks a significant milestone in our Imagine campaign, reflecting our community’s commitment to transforming healthcare in the Lowcountry,” Burchard said.
To support the hospital’s relocation and foster innovation and access, the Roper St. Francis Foundation aims to raise $100 million by 2030 through a fundraising campaign.
E4H Environments for Health Architecture and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) are leading the design efforts. Barton Malow Builders and Edifice Construction are serving as the general contractors for the project.
Roper St Francis healthcare plans to maintain a presence in Charleston’s historic peninsula, were its first hospital was established. The organization is developing plans to ensure continued service in the city’s central area.
