Former Adelaide Crows captain Rory Sloane believes his old club should aggressively pursue St Kilda’s contracted wingman, Nasiah wanganeen-Milera, viewing him as the “final piece to the puzzle” in their premiership aspirations. Sloane, now a commentator with Nine, highlighted Wanganeen-Milera’s potential to add crucial speed and dash to the crows’ already strong midfield.
Sloane champions Wanganeen-Milera as Perfect Crows Fit
Sloane emphasized that Wanganeen-Milera wouldn’t need to be a prolific ball-winner to considerably impact the Crows. “he is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for him ” Sloane stated. “He would be the final piece to the puzzle for the Crows. They all chip in, they don’t need 30s [possessions per game] they get the job done with 15 to 25 possessions. [But] a bit of dash, a bit of speed on the outside might be helpful as well.”
He believes Wanganeen-Milera’s skillset would perfectly complement Adelaide’s powerful inside midfielders. “Absolutely, he would fit that side, and he would complement some of the big boys inside very well.”
The Crows, lead by board director James Gallagher – who previously served as St Kilda’s list manager when Wanganeen-milera was drafted – are reportedly keen to bolster their outside run. Sloane suggests Adelaide should emulate the accomplished trade strategies of Geelong and Sydney, consistently finding room in their salary cap to acquire key targets.
“Some of the young guys [with the Crows] are going to take a step again next year. I imagine they will be pretty active again at the trade period. They will certainly be looking to improve,” Sloane said. “That’s what the best clubs do. Geelong and Sydney have done it for the last 20 years. They are the two best clubs for the last 20 years, for me. They are always improving and always have space in their salary cap to chase people that want to fit into that habitat.”
Power Also in the Hunt, Player weighing Options
Despite strong ties to the Power – where his uncle gavin Wanganeen is a club legend - Sloane believes Wanganeen-Milera should seriously consider both South Australian clubs. The power lack a first-round draft pick this year but could perhaps offer future selections in 2026 and 2027 as part of a trade package.
“He would be silly not to look at both clubs. He would be having those discussions,” Sloane commented.
wanganeen-Milera himself acknowledged he’s navigating discussions with both his club and his manager.”I was sorting that out with the club and my manager but just sort of going about my business playing footy at the moment. So that’ll come in due time,” he told Fox Footy after St Kilda’s win over North Melbourne. His manager, Ben Williams, has been contacted for comment.
Saints Steadfast to Retain Rising Star
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon remains optimistic about retaining the talented wingman. The Saints will undoubtedly fight to keep Wanganeen-Milera, recognizing his importance to their future plans.
the trade period promises to be a fascinating one, with Wanganeen-Milera at the center of speculation. Adelaide’s aggressive pursuit, coupled with the Power’s strong connections and St Kilda’s determination, sets the stage for a potentially complex negotiation. The outcome will significantly impact the premiership aspirations of all three clubs.
