Isaac Ssamba Takes the helm at Rotary Club of Mukono Central
The Rotary Club of Mukono Central, along with its Rotaract Club, celebrated a leadership transition at Star gardens in Mukono Municipality. The event marked the end of one rotary year and the beginning of another, with outgoing and incoming presidents expressing their dedication to community service and Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.” The Rotary Foundation will be a key focus.
Carolyne Male,the outgoing president,delivered a farewell speech,reflecting on a year of resilience and purpose. She pledged her support to Isaac Ssamba,the incoming president. “Like many past presidents, the will of Rotary must go on,” Male saeid.
During Male’s term, the club initiated a water accessibility project in Kikandwa, aiming to provide water tanks to 50 vulnerable households. Twelve tanks were initially distributed, with the remaining work to be completed under Ssamba’s leadership.The club also launched the HCP program, supporting two young boys at YMCA, who are now graduating.
Isaac Ssamba, a social work graduate, shared his journey to Rotary. “I once told a friend, ‘One day, we shall join Rotary,'” Ssamba said. “Years later, he reminded me of that dream. Eventually, I joined, and today I am humbled to lead.”
Ssamba outlined a four-part vision for his presidency, focusing on advancing club projects, strengthening membership, increasing support for the Rotary Foundation, and enhancing the club’s visibility.He pledged $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation and encouraged members to contribute within their means. “It is not about how much you have,” he said. “It is about how much you value giving.”
Rotary District 9213 Governor Martin Geoffrey Kitakule praised the club for its growth and commitment. ”A child is judged by how it is indeed raised.The Rotary Club of mukono Central has been raised well,” Kitakule said, urging members to promote their work and impact. he also advised them to achieve their goals early in the Rotary year, considering potential limitations due to the upcoming election season. The role of the club is vital.
The Rotaract Club of Mukono Central also saw a leadership change, with Joan Tendo passing the baton to Martin Sentamu. Tendo reflected on her two-year term, highlighting community projects such as the Belep Project at Destiny Community School and efforts to support Primary Seven pupils.”What started as a small dream blossomed into a thriving family of change makers,” Tendo said.
Rotarian Moses Kafeero installed Martin Sentamu, encouraging him to lead with creativity and compassion. District governor Kitakule emphasized that Rotary is about presence in the lives of those who need it most, not prestige.
