Loughborough Lightning showcased a commanding performance at Franklin’s Gardens on August 30, 2024, captivating a crowd of 13,615 fans. Fly-half Emily Scarratt led the charge with a Player of the Match performance, accumulating 27 points through a try and 11 conversions.
Despite challenging weather conditions, Scarratt emphasized the team’s adaptability.”Obviously the conditions weren’t really in our favour, but I think we adapted to that, played some nice rugby at times, put them in the right corners at times and that’s what we needed to do,” she stated post-match.
Scarratt also highlighted the team’s cohesion despite numerous squad changes. “I think with a squad that had so many changes, you couldn’t really tell out there. It felt really cohesive and really connected and that’s what we wanted to try and achieve.” Her affection for playing at Franklin’s Gardens, both for her club and England, was also evident, noting the consistently ”great atmosphere.”
Moloney-MacDonald Celebrates Triumphant Return
Wing Claudia moloney-MacDonald marked a meaningful milestone with a try, completing a full 80-minute performance. This appearance was particularly meaningful following a period of recovery from injury.
Moloney-MacDonald expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to return to the pitch.”From a personal point of view, it was just great to be back out on the pitch and obviously to get that try is nice as well,” she said. she described her journey back to fitness as a process of rediscovering presence and focusing on the present moment. “It’s been a journey. I’m kind of very much in the present, very much where my feet are. I had kind of forgotten that part of it and so I’m just focusing on being here and enjoying the moment.”
