King Charles and Queen Camilla led the British Royal Family in attending a traditional Easter Sunday church service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 5, 2026.
The event, described as a traditional family gathering rather than an official engagement, saw the monarch and his wife arrive by car for the Easter Matins service. Upon their arrival and departure, the King and Queen interacted with members of the public, with the Queen describing the service as good
when questioned by onlookers.
Return of the Prince and Princess of Wales
The service was marked by the return of the Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who had not attended the traditional event for the previous two years. Prince William and Princess Catherine led their three children into the chapel, where Princess Charlotte was observed waving to crowds gathered behind barriers.
The Wales family had missed the 2025 service due to a decision to take a family holiday to Norfolk. Their absence in 2024 occurred shortly after the cancer diagnosis of Princess Catherine.
Other Royal Attendees and Absences
Other members of the Royal Family in attendance included Princess Anne, who was accompanied by her husband, Sir Tim Laurence. Prince Edward and his family also joined the gathering.

Several members of the family were absent from the service. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, and their daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, did not attend. This follows their attendance at the same event in the previous year; it is understood that the princesses had made alternative plans for the holiday.
Recent Royal Activities
The Easter service follows other recent engagements for the King and Queen. On April 2, 2026, the couple attended the traditional Maundy service located in Denbighshire, Wales.
on March 18, 2026, King Charles and Queen Camilla were present at Datchet Road to greet Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife prior to a carriage procession to Windsor Castle.
Unlike in previous years, the King did not issue a formal Easter message for 2026.
